Our mission is to foster a love of music in your little ones and lay a foundation for future musical development.

Why Musikgarten?

Musikgarten was founded on the life work of Dr. Lorna Heyge, PhD in Music and Audrey Sillick, early childhood educator and Montessori Teacher Trainer. The curricula merges respected early music education and Montessori concepts.

Age -Specific Curricula

Unlike some music programs that offer classes for “all ages,” Musikgarten offers “just right” instruction for each age level—from your baby, who benefits greatly from being part of a live music environment, right up through school-age children. Like any other developmental skill or education, it is important to work with similar-aged children so that they are properly supported and stimulated in ways that make sense for them.

Beginning simply with singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, the program adds levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles. Children coming through the Musikgarten program inherently "know" the music they eventually play in later years in instrumental instruction.

Research-Based

Music and movement can have a dramatic effect on babies, toddlers, and older children as well. Studies indicate that early music instruction positively impacts language and literacy development; others point to improved pattern recognition skills which are the basis for mathematical learning; still others reveal the social and emotional benefits of being involved in music. Given it’s long-standing reputation as the leader in the field of early music education, Musikgarten can give your child a learning advantage for life.

Equal Participation

The Musikgarten program involves the children, caregivers and teachers at equal levels. Everyone in the class participates in the activities. Rather than having a ‘leader’ to listen to, or dance with, children in the Musikgarten program are given the confidence to become their own music makers at their own pace. Additionally, through taking part in the classes themselves, parents and caregivers are able to extend the Musikgarten experience into the home and enjoy crucial bonding time that helps children build their confidence.

Natural Materials

What's more, Musikgarten is eco-friendly whenever and wherever possible. Avoiding plastic and embracing the natural world is part of the Musikgarten advantage. Musikgarten works very hard to use natural materials and keep packaging minimal. Some of our family packets—including instruments made of natural fibers—even come in cotton cloth bags. Not only is the packaging preferable in terms of aesthetics, but it is also durable, reusable, and not harmful to the environment in its production and disposal.
